Outside Processing Buyer
We are looking for a dependable, detail-oriented Outside Processing Buyer to join our manufacturing team in Milwaukee. You will manage the outside vendors that perform secondary operations on our steel products, including but not limited to heat treating, plating, testing, shearing, laser processing and grinding.
Full-time · 0–5 years of experience
No college degree required. Hands-on manufacturing, purchasing, supplier scheduling or logistics experience counts most, and we will train you on our ERP system.
About the role
We are looking for a dependable, detail-oriented Outside Processing Buyer to join our manufacturing team in Milwaukee. You will manage the outside vendors that perform secondary operations on our steel products, including but not limited to heat treating, plating, testing, shearing, laser processing and grinding.
Your job is to keep parts moving: out to the right vendor, through processing on time, and back to our facility meeting our quality standards.
What you’ll do
- Purchase order management: Issue, track and manage purchase orders for outside processing services such as heat treating, plating, testing, shearing, grinding and laser processing.
- Logistics coordination: Arrange and monitor the transport of steel parts to and from outside vendors and other Wrought Washer plants so turnarounds stay on time and production isn’t delayed.
- Daily planning: Keep multiple orders, vendors and shipments in motion at once, and re-plan quickly when a customer rush, a line-down situation or a vendor delay comes up.
- Vendor communication: Check in with vendors daily to track order status, resolve scheduling bottlenecks and clarify processing specifications.
- Quality verification: Work with our Quality department to confirm that certifications and inspection data match requirements when processed parts come back.
- Data entry and inventory tracking: Keep accurate records of where inventory is, what processing costs, and current lead times in our ERP system.
What we’re looking for
- Experience: 1–5 years in manufacturing, purchasing, inventory control, scheduling, or industrial logistics. Entry-level candidates with a strong work ethic and attention to detail are welcome to apply.
- Industry knowledge: Familiarity with steel or metal fabrication workflows and processing terms (heat treating, plating, grinding) is a strong plus.
- ERP software: Experience in an ERP system. Plex ERP experience is a distinct advantage but not required; we will train you.
- Education & Skill: A college degree is not required. Comfortable working with weights, piece counts, unit conversions (pounds, pieces, cwt pricing) and costs, and quick to catch a figure that doesn’t add up.
- Prioritization and judgment: You can keep dozens of open orders moving, decide what comes first when a rush order or a late vendor changes the plan, and follow each one through to closed.
- Skills: Strong organization, clear verbal and written communication, and basic Microsoft Office Applications.
Plant General Manager
We are seeking a dedicated plant general manager who can own the full site operation, develop the functional leadership team, and build the management disciplines that will allow MKE to grow. This is a newly created position.
The Opportunity
Wrought Washer Manufacturing is a Milwaukee-based metal stamping company that has been producing precision washers and stamped components for industrial customers across North America for decades. We are not a company in maintenance mode. We are in an active build phase – developing leadership, building systems, and investing in the infrastructure needed to grow significantly over the next three to five years.
This role exists because we are honest about a gap. Our Milwaukee facility is our primary production site and the engine of the business. It needs a dedicated plant general manager who can own the full site operation, develop the functional leadership team, and build the management disciplines that will allow MKE to grow. This is a newly created position.
This is a builder role. If you want to walk into a polished operation and manage it, this is not the right fit. If you want to build one and leave a mark on a business that will grow because of what you built – keep reading.
About Wrought Washer
We are a ~140-year-old manufacturer with our primary stamping operation in Milwaukee (MKE), a precision machine shop (DTI) in Racine, and a warehouse and distribution center in Mount Pleasant, WI. We produce components in high-mix, medium-volume runs for industrial customers who depend on us for quality and reliability.
We run Plex as our ERP and operate MKE as a union shop under a collective bargaining agreement. We have an experienced Director of Operations overseeing our DTI and MP sites, and we are building out the management layer at MKE to match. The Plant General Manager is an important hire for our future growth and success.
Why people come here
- Real ownership – you run the site, build the KPIs and success criteria, and make decisions that matter
- A company that is investing in leadership, systems buildout, and a growth agenda
- A direct line to the President/CEO – no layers of corporate bureaucracy between you and the decisions
- A path to growth as the three-site operating model matures
- A team with functional managers ready for structure and development
What You Will Own
The Plant General Manager is the single point of accountability for MKE. Five functional leaders (Operations Manager, Engineering Manager, Quality & Safety Manager, Planning Manager, Procurement/Supply Chain Manager) report to you directly. You own the site P&L, safety culture, quality systems, new program launches, and the management infrastructure that makes everything else possible.
Safety
- Set the safety tone for the site — MKE is moving from reactive to proactive and you lead that shift
- Own incident rates, near-miss reporting, observation completion, and corrective action closure
- Partner with the Quality & Safety Manager on EHS program implementation
- Ensure OSHA compliance is current and audit-ready
Quality, APQP & New Business Introduction
- Build and own an APQP process – it does not exist today and it is limiting new business growth
- Own the PPAP process and new program launch gate reviews end to end
- Partner with Sales on quoting support, feasibility, and launch commitments
- Own customer quality performance — PPM, complaints, corrective actions
P&L & Business Process
- Own MKE’s operating P&L – labor, scrap, OT, material, maintenance, and overhead
- Build and manage the annual operating budget; present monthly variance analysis to the President
- Map, standardize, and streamline key operating processes- many are informal or undocumented today
- Drive Plex utilization as an operational management tool, not just a transaction system
Collective Bargaining Agreement & Labor Relations
- Ensure full CBA compliance across scheduling, job assignments, discipline, and grievance handling
- Maintain a collaborative relationship with the union based on consistency, transparency, and follow-through
- Participate in contract negotiations alongside HR and legal counsel; provide operational data and workforce planning input
Leadership & Team Development
- A collaborative team culture is essential to build and nurture
- Develop five functional managers -capable and motivated
- Run a weekly leadership team meeting and bi-weekly one-on-ones with each direct report
- Build a culture where problems surface early and get solved at the right level
- Identify and develop internal succession depth
What We Are Looking For
Required
- S. in Industrial Technology, Engineering, Business, or equivalent
- 8+ years of progressive manufacturing leadership including direct management of multiple functional managers
- Demonstrated P&L ownership – budgets, variance analysis, cost reduction with before/after data
- Hands-on APQP, PPAP, and new program launch experience in a manufacturing environment
- Proven safety culture improvement track record – moving an operation from reactive to proactive
- Experience building management systems in an underdeveloped manufacturing environment
- Financial literacy — understands the operational levers that drive cost and margin
Preferred
- MBA or advanced degree
- Metal stamping, precision manufacturing, or high-mix / medium-volume production background
- Plex or similar ERP/MES experience
- Lean / Six Sigma certification — structured problem solving, standard work, waste elimination
- IATF 16949 or ISO 9001 quality management system experience
- Automotive or industrial customer quality background (PPAP level 3+, FMEA, control plans)
The Right Person
You have outgrown a role where someone else owns the systems. You want the whole thing: safety, quality, delivery, cost, people, and process. You do not need a perfect environment – you build the environment while performing in it. You lead through others, develop managers rather than doing their jobs, and hold accountability without creating a blame culture. You are energized by underdeveloped organizations, not frustrated by them.
